Teddy Bears by Brandon Witt
This is a Christmas story with a difference and I utterly adored it from the first word to the last.
Brian works in a bath house in Denver; it’s not a dynamic job but it pays the bills and provides for some interesting entertainment on and off. In his spare time he is a nerd of the highest order indulging in his love of toys and games and re-enactments of his favourite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He has two teddy bear hamsters and spends an inordinate amount of time filming them recreating Buffy scenes, for his 50 thousand plus fans on You Tube. Socially, Brian isn’t the best. He considers himself fat and hairy and pasty and as such doesn’t have a lot of confidence. Enter James - he is the ultimate muscled hairy bear and his visits to the bathhouse are eagerly awaited by Brian.. When Brian and James bump into each other at a toy store James asks Brian out and the story continues with their developing attraction for one another.
The theme aside from Brian’s hilarious geekiness, is that he hates Christmas, however, he’s beginning to realise that spent with the right person doing something he loves, wouldn’t be so bad.
Brandon Witt has created the most wonderful character with Brian. He’s too awkward most of the time but you can’t help rooting for him. James is gorgeous, the stuff of all our fantasies not just Brian’s, and the way they interact with each other is sweet and angsty and totally sexy.
I read this book during my lunch hour and had to stop myself from jumping on my desk and cheering every time Brian got a step further with James. I won’t spoil the end for you but suffice it to say this is a perfect little stocking filler! Brandon Witt’s writing is the perfect combination for me of humour and angst. He infuses a lot of emotion into his words yet also manages to make his stories sexy and engaging. I really enjoyed Teddy Bears so much and highly recommend you to indulge yourself.
