Murmuration by T.J. Klune
Murmuration by TJ Klune – 5 stars
TJ Klune is an excellent author. His imagination is off the charts incredible and each of his stories are unique and wonderful. He has a distinct style which is instantly recognisable in all his work and for me this is something I relish.
Many of his books are laugh out loud hilarious – Murmuration is not one of those books.
Many of his books are deeply emotional and veer towards a more alternative perspective of life. Murmuration is definitely one of those books.
TJ focuses on his character’s personalities as much as their actions which I find draws the reader in on a really personal level, so that you feel every moment of joy, pain, lust, fear, happiness, disappointment, angst, love, as if it were your own experience. Murmuration is most certainly one of those books.
So what is Murmuration?
I looked it up on Wonderopolis and this is what they said: Have you ever seen a murmuration? If you have, you would know it. Seeing hundreds — even thousands — of starlings flying together in a whirling, ever-changing pattern is a phenomenon of nature that amazes and delights those lucky enough to witness it. As they fly, the starlings in a murmuration seem to be connected together. They twist and turn and change direction at a moment's notice. How do hundreds or even thousands of birds coordinate such complicated movement while in flight?
Well if that doesn’t get you intrigued, let me tell you that Mike Frazier’s story will certainly mesmerise and amaze you with every whirl, twirl and twist of TJ Klune’s clever words. It’s impossible to talk about this book without giving away spoilers so I’m not going to tell you much about the plot. Suffice it to say it’s a complicate weave of circumstances and emotions. There are many layers to Mike and as each reveal is made, another intriguing situation appears. The underlying thread however, is love. Mike loves Sean and that love gives him the strength to see his story through to the nerve-wracking, heart wrenching end.
Who is Sean, I hear you ask? Well, delve into the lives of the inhabitants of Amorea and into the captivating mind of Mike Frazier and reward yourself with possibly the most amazingly excellent book of the year.
